Mongolian President Presented Flag Traveled To Antarctica and Invited There

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia

Tsakhia Elbegdorj, President of Mongolia received L.Dugerjav, President of Mongolia’s Antarctica Research Association. Mr. Dugerjav said: “Mongolian Antarctica Research Association cooperates with Bulgarian scientists within the framework of the European Union’s project. The project has been implemented for four years and is finishing this year. The project was discussed at the Commission between the Governments of Mongolia and Bulgaria and concluded that it is possible to extend the project’s period. We participate in permafrost studies there.”

“Other scientists are from countries without permafrost. For Mongolian scientists it is easier to work there. Because first, Mongolian scientists are from a country with permafrost, second the scientists are with endurance to work in cold weather.” He continued “This year three Mongolian scientists are going to Antarctica to make studies. Scientists from over ten countries are working in Antarctica. Mongolians are working there with thoughts to establish our own camp on Livingston island. If Mongolia joins the Convention on the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources, possibilities to acquire shares from the resources will open for Mongolia. 43 countries have ratified the convention. Thus we ask you to pay attention to this matter.”

Afterward Mr.Dugerjav presented the flag of Mongolia he carried to Antarctica in 2007 to the President of Mongolia and invited President Elbegdorj to visit Antarctica. Around 20 heads of state already visited Antarctica.
