National Security Council Meeting Held

On September 8, 2015, the Mongolia's National Security Council discussed and supported the President’s initiative on declaring Mongolia a fully-fledged permanent neutral country.

At the meeting, the National Security Council issued a recommendation on drafting a Law on permanent neutrality power of Mongolia to the President of Mongolia, a recommendation on establishing a legal foundation for the permanent neutrality power of Mongolia to the State Great Khural, and a recommendation on declaring the permanent neutrality power of Mongolia and calling on the world countries and the international organizations to recognize Mongolia’s permanent neutrality.

The National Security Council agreed that Mongolia should proclaim itself a permanent neutral state with a peaceful, multi-pillar foreign policy and balanced relations, and safeguard its security and vital national interests by political and diplomatic means.

The core principles of the neutrality policy were initially reflected in the legislation of Mongolia, such as the Constitution, Law on the Stationing and Transit of Foreign Military Forces, Law on nuclear-weapon-free status, the national security policy, the foreign policy, and the state military policy of Mongolia, and this will be the legal and policy foundation of proclaiming the permanent neutrality power of the country.
