Chief of Staff of President’s Office P.Tsagaan Meets Ambassador of the Swiss Confederation

Today, Chief of Staff of the Office of the President of Mongolia P.Tsagaan welcomed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Swiss Confederation to Mongolia Jean-Jacques de Dardel. The sides highlighted that last year Mongolia and the Swiss Confederation marked the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations and noted that the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation / SDC / has been working in Ulaanbaatar since 2004.

Mongolian politicians and social figures strived to establish relations with the Swiss Confederation earlier than this period. For instance, a citizen of Mongolia Jamsrangiin Tseveen proposed to establish relations with the Swiss Confederation.

Mongolia was selected by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation as eligible to implement its latest Swiss Cooperation Strategy 2013-2016. In this strategy SDC has prioritised Mongolia’s agricultural development, ensuring food security, vocational education and skills training, strengthening good governance and civil society development, in particular through support for reforms related to decentralisation, direct democracy and civic participation.
Since the democratic movement in Mongolia in 1990s, the bilateral relations between Mongolia and the Swiss Confederation have been intensified in many fields such as good governance, decentralization, direct democracy, civic participation, development of a green economy and supporting citizens of local area.
Chief of Staff P.Tsagaan noted: “Mongolia to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Democratic Election this July 29th. Mongolia has a strong electoral democracy. We are working on strengthening direct democracy through the citizens’ involvement. In this regard, the Swiss Confederation has been actively supporting Mongolia”.
